Uttaranchal University has established the Student Sustainability Club, led by students from the School of Applied and Life Sciences. Uttarakhand, known for its abundant rivers and as the birthplace of the sacred Ganga, is home to rich aquatic biodiversity. Uttaranchal University actively contributes to the conservation of this biodiversity through various awareness campaigns and research studies with the state and outside the state.
Uttaranchal University collects rainwater in disused quarries, treating it on-site through a dedicated water treatment plant. This treated water is then repurposed for use in toilets and other non-potable applications, reducing groundwater consumption and conserving rainwater. The university carefully monitors water quality and discharge, adhering to BIS and WHO standards through routine assessments. The treated sewage water meets Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications and is utilized exclusively for horticulture.
