Uttaranchal University actively supports UN-SDG 14 by fostering awareness and action for marine conservation. Recognizing that oceans cover 70% of our planet and are critical for food, water, and energy, the university organizes campaigns to highlight the threats of pollution and overfishing. Through research programs, it explores sustainable solutions such as reducing plastic waste and managing industrial runoff to protect marine ecosystems. Collaborations with environmental organizations amplify these efforts, while educational workshops inspire responsible management of aquatic resources, emphasizing the importance of preserving marine biodiversity for the well-being of the planet and future generations.

Connecting Communities, Protecting Freshwater

Uttaranchal University has established the Student Sustainability Club, led by students from the School of Applied and Life Sciences. The club’s mission is to educate, support, and empower farmers and local communities through curriculum-integrated outreach activities like internships and workshops, which also strengthen the bond between students and farmers to promote sustainable practices.

Advancing Research, Ensuring Sustainability

Uttarakhand, known for its abundant rivers and as the birthplace of the sacred Ganga, is home to rich aquatic biodiversity. Uttaranchal University actively contributes to the conservation of this biodiversity through various awareness campaigns and research studies with the state and outside the state.

Sustainable Discharge Practices for a Better Planet

Uttaranchal University collects rainwater in disused quarries, treating it on-site through a dedicated water treatment plant. This treated water is then repurposed for use in toilets and other non-potable applications, reducing groundwater consumption and conserving rainwater. The university carefully monitors water quality and discharge, adhering to BIS and WHO standards through routine assessments. The treated sewage water meets Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications and is utilized exclusively for horticulture.
